Algorithmic Bias in Job Ads on Meta (Real Women in Trucking v. Meta)
On December 1, 2022, Real Women in Trucking, a non-profit group that advocates for women truck drivers, filed a class action charge with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Meta Platforms, alleging that Meta routinely discriminates against women and older people when deciding which users receive employers’ job ads on Facebook.
Gender/Age Bias in Insurance Ads Litigation (Liapes v. Facebook, Inc.)
In 2020, Samantha Liapes filed a class action lawsuit in California Superior Court against Facebook alleging that Facebook routinely places insurance ads on its social media platform in which women and older people are completely excluded from receiving those ads.
Age Bias in Housing Ads Litigation (Opiotennione v. Bozzuto et al.)
On July 1, 2020, in a historic civil rights action challenging digital discrimination in housing, an older woman seeking to represent a class of thousands of older tenants filed a lawsuit against 10 residential property management companies, including a number of industry leaders, alleging that they denied older prospective tenants the opportunity to receive their paid digital ads for apartments.
